Songbird Asset Management’s Christine Song welcome newsletter for the month of November 2015.

Christine Song’s Welcome Newsletter

Hello, it’s me.

While I don’t expect my Welcome newsletter to get the 27 million views of Adele’s latest song, I do hope a few of you will read on to see what I’ve been up to, and to explain my radio silence – sorry if I haven’t been in touch!

It’s been an exciting year as I’ve launched my new website and have scaled up my business development efforts. My company, Songbird Asset Management, is a private investment firm that is focused solely on investing in high quality, small company stocks. Investing in smaller companies is relatively inefficient because they are generally, unknown or misunderstood. Thus, I search for undiscovered gems to invest in, looking for the next Apple, Microsoft or Starbucks.

My differentiated investing strategy rests on 3 key elements:  high conviction (each stock starts at 2.0% of the portfolio), concentrated holdings (I own only 20 to 30 stocks max) and long-term outlook (minimal stock turnover as I let my winners run, a tax-efficient strategy).

Year-to-date through Nov. 10th, the representative portfolio was up 14.35% vs. the market benchmark Russell 2500 Index of 0.62%, outperforming by 13.73%. Since inception 1/1/11 to 12/31/14, the portfolio’s cumulative annual returns was 81.6% vs. the benchmark of 68.3%, outperforming by 13.3%.

If you’re interested in learning more about my firm or investing with me, please email me at csong@songbirdam.com, or call me at (202) 525-0675.

Thank you and I hope you enjoy reading my newsletter, a monthly glimpse into my journey in small company investing!

The Story Behind Songbird     All birds chirp or make sounds, but not all birds sing. Songbirds are a special group of birds and scientists think that songbirds are born not knowing how to sing – they learn their songs over time. Similar to the human language, bird songs are learned not inherited. Thus, birds that sing better are essentially superior learners. At Songbird Asset Management, we strive each day to be better learners. We are relentless in our efforts to build knowledge in pursuit of our ultimate goal – to help you grow your nest egg of investments.
