PayPal Exec Sam Shrauger Joins Visa After Brief Yahoo StintVW Staff
Sam Shrauger, who was previously an executive at PayPal, worked at Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) for only a month before now joining Visa Inc (NYSE:V).
Shrauger, who joined Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) for the brief period of time while Scott Thompson was CEO, is now the head of global commercialisation at Visa Inc (NYSE:V) .
According to his bio on the Visa Inc (NYSE:V) website, he will be responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing the company’s strategy when bringing new Visa products and services to the market.
The bio also tells us that Shrauger spent eight years at PayPal, where he was vice president of global product and experience at PayPal. While there, he “defined the vision and strategy for the company’s global product portfolio, and oversaw the product management and user experience design functions.”
Some of his achievements while at PayPal include leading a variety of PayPal’s product lines, launching its digital goods payment solution, leading the integration of the Bill Me Later service, and serving as a founding member of the merchant services business unit.
After PayPal, Shrauger began his brief stint at Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO). Scott Thompson, who had just become CEO of the web company, made Shrauger one of his first hires. Thompson, who was hired in January 2012, was caught up in a controversy over faked qualifications on his CV – namely a computer science degree which didn’t exist. Less than five months after he joined, Yahoo issued a statement saying that Thompson was no longer part of the company. Shrauger left soon after.
Shrauger’s previous experience from his time at PayPal will make him a valuable asset to the Visa team. Shrauger’s strong knowledge of the processes of online payments will be invaluable to Visa, which is increasingly offering online payment options, such as its new PayPal-esque digital wallet called V.me.
Shrauger obtained a BA in Economics from the University of California at Berkley. He also received an MBA from the University of Virginia. Previous roles before joining Visa Inc (NYSE:V) included serving as senior vice president of commerce at Yahoo, as well as roles in product management and consulting with Agency.com, VerticalNet, Deloitte Consulting, and Quantum Consulting.
