According to the Federal Reserve, the economy is strong enough to “warrant gradual increases in the federal funds rate.” The official plan is to increase the rate two more times this year, although the Federal Open Market Committee held off in this week’s policy setting meeting after the economy exhibited tepid growth in the first quarter, a result central bank officials expect is “likely to be transitory.” The Fed raised the fed funds . . .
