Hillhouse Capital: If You Bet Against China You’ll LoseRupert Hargreaves
Of all the investment funds in the world today, few have been able to achieve what Hillhouse Capital has. Founded in 2005 with $20 million in seed capital from the Yale endowment, Hillhouse, which is managed by Zhang Lei has exploded in size and today manages over $30 billion.
The firm has primarily benefited from the explosive growth of China's tech sector over the past decade. Known for its avoidance of publicity, over the years Hillhouse has given limited insight into its investment style, although Lei has occasionally spoken to reporters about his investment record.
A great deal of the firm's success has come from being in the right place at the right time.
