Apple and Disney In Talks For Adding WatchESPN To AppleTV

It would seem that The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) will be in business with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) if ongoing talks go as planned.

Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN sport channel is currently having talks with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) on the possibility of adding the WatchESPN app on the giant tech firm’s television device, reports Bloomberg. In the said talks subscribers who have AppleTV would be able to access the network’s web service on their devices. The talks were announced as the network revealed programming for new TV season that was starting in September. However, Sean Bratches said that a deal with the famed iPhone maker was not at hand.

ESPN has been making inroads in online programming via mobile devices so that they can be able to reach a wider audience. Currently, the most popular US sports network has an app for subscribers with Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) video console game from Xbox. In this arrangement, there are also other pay TV plans with Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) and FiOs’s Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ).

Mr. Bratches was also of the opinion that Walt Disney is a company that always makes sure that their consumers use their products on the best platform possible. In fact, he added that in the talks there was a plan that the arrangement that ESPN has with Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) cold be replicated- a pay TV chain, where consumers can use products from one firm having paid for the product using another firm.

Disney which is based in California has had its stock climb up by 20% so far this year. It however rose by 0.8% to close at $45.54, while Apple, the Cupertino, California based company increased its share price by 0.6% to close at $561.70 after the talks were rumored to have taken place.
