Berkshire Hathaway's Net Profit Rises 10%

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) has had a pretty good start to the year. Net earnings per Class A share rose to $3,143 in the quarter, from $2,862 a year ago. Adjusted for one-time items, the company earned $2,583 per class A share, from $2,149 a year ago. The conglomerate reported net earnings of $5.16 billion in the first quarter, compared with $4.70 billion a year ago. Berkshire Hathaway – Growth drivers Berkshire Hathaway reported that earnings from its insurance underwriting business grew 4% to $480 million during the quarter while earnings from railroad, utilities and energy jumped 24.6% to $1.466 billion….
