The following letter appeared in the April 3, 1961, issue of Barron’s. The writer, Gilbert A. Wilkins, wrote to Barron’s following the announcement that the New York Stock Exchange was planning to introduce a new ticker, with nearly twice the speed of the old device. This advance was needed as the average daily volume on the exchange had surged to 4 million shares.
