Japan dodged a populist bullet recently. While some headlines suggest a landslide victory for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as a validation of their policies, Nomura’s Chief Economist Richard Koo has other thoughts. Fact is, it was more shrewd political maneuvers that won the day as Japan’s “grey elite” successfully fought back against a political outsider. The delicate and behind the scenes moves in Japan occur as the most intricate surgery is being conducted with the US Federal Reserve Balance Sheet  just as a change at the top might occur.
