When the Internet Association yesterday released a statement of support for the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement, proponents of the deal noted it sealed the last remaining holdout among the largest U.S. corporations opposing the deal. Tech titans Google, Facebook, Amazon, eBay and many others are among the handful members of the Internet Association. To other members of the organization, smaller tech companies, business executives and Internet advocates, however, the support represented yet another sell-out of traditional American ideals of free speech and equal justice under U.S. law, handing mega-corporations a major advantage over mid-sized businesses and ordinary citizens.
