Martin J Whitman was a legend in the world of value investing. He initially made a name for himself in the world of distressed debt investing. Whitman used a fairly aggressive approach, taking substantial positions in a distressed company's debt and then demanding a fair level of compensation for management. This approach worked extremely well.
