On a month-over-month basis, U.S. Retail Sales came in flat, with online sales up 0.8%. The weaker-than-expected retail picture suggests that analysts might want to add “recession” into their vocabulary after more than 5 years of little use. The U.S. economy has never experienced the type of Retail Sales figures as we’ve seen since March 2014 without a recession occurring within the year. Suggesting that a recession is on the short-term horizon is, of course, simply a suggestion, not a prediction.
