The volatility which has swept the global markets in the second half of this year has been well-documented, but some markets have been hit worse than others. Hedge funds with a focus on emerging markets have struggled along with EM stocks. Eurekahedge highlighted EM funds in its November report, pronouncing 2018 “one of the worst years for emerging market hedge funds since 2001.” Interestingly though, at least one EM-focused hedge fund managed a positive return in October when most equity hedge funds had a difficult month.
