Whitney Tilson sent out an interesting email to ‘investors’ today… Tilson is trying to sell his parents’ beach resort in Kenya …. Surprisingly, the story has been making the rounds and readers have asked us about our lack of coverage… Therefore, due to popular request we have copied the email below.

Forgive the spam, but I wouldn’t be a dutiful son if I didn’t send this out.

As you may know, my parents met and married in the Peace Corps 50 years ago and have now retired in Kenya, where they’ve lived and worked for the past decade. A number of years ago they bought a beautiful beach home on the island paradise of Lamu (one of only two places in Kenya listed in the book 1,000 Places to See Before You Die). They only make it there maybe one weekend a month, meaning that 90% of the time it’s sitting empty, so they’re now renting it out. To that end, they’ve put together a new web site, www.lamubeachhome.com (I pasted the main page below).

If you or anyone you know is coming to Kenya, spending a few days in Lamu is a must-do, so please feel free to contact my parents (see info below) and/or forward this email around.

Thanks!

Whitney

Kizingoni House is a world-class private luxury home on 1½ acres of secluded beach property on Lamu Island in Kenya.  Total relaxation and comfort are ensured by a well trained staff.   Swahili cuisine is featured with an emphasis on freshly caught seafood and tropical fruits and vegetables.

The House is set back 50 meters from the magnificent white sand beach that slopes into the inviting warm water of the Indian Ocean.   Couples, families  or groups of friends will enjoy a variety of activities — swimming in the interior pool or the ocean, taking long walks on the beach, kayaking, or just relaxing in swing beds by the beach. Other activities can be arranged including water skiing and tubing, deep sea fishing, swimming with dolphins, dhow cruises, and trips to Lamu Town, which is rightly famous as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kizingoni House offers the perfect vacation destination with the sea, sun and sand of Lamu, especially when combined with Kenya’s unmatched game parks.

Travel from Europe and other parts of the world is uncomplicated with connecting scheduled commercial flights from Nairobi to Lamu. In addition, Yellow WingsAir Services is available throughout East Africa.  Kizingoni House staff will be at the airport to meet guests who are then transported in our private boat to the House.  For guests who are driving, they will be met at the Matondoni dock.

Kizingoni House is managed by its owners Susan and Tom Tilson, who have retired in Kenya and live in Nairobi. Their first visit to Lamu was over 40 years ago, and it has been a special place ever since.
